CFC Shares the Bottom Line on Child Care with Congressman Peters

Congressman Scott Peters visits the Dan McKinney Family YMCA

Congressman Scott Peters visited the Dan McKinney Family YMCA last week to learn more about the ways the federal government can support the child care sector, and the ripple effects that lack of access and affordability have on the broader economy.

After a tour of the facility with Vince Glorioso, McKinney YMCA Executive Director and Melanie Martinez, McKinney Preschool Director, Peters had and a candid conversation with local preschool parent Meg Hamilton, who detailed how access to child care allowed her to keep her job as a fitness instructor and trainer, but the high cost made it challenging to stay in the workforce.

After the tour, Peters sat down for a discussion with leaders from the YMCA, the Children First Collective and the Regional EDC Foundation for a brief roundtable highlighting the ways that the child care opportunity impacts the local economy and, in turn, every San Diegan.
